Department of Foreign Languages and International Studies (DFLIS) aims to serve China's diplomatic cause. To fulfill this mission, we strive for leadership in teaching and research to make DFLIS a beacon of excellence in higher education. We strive to build a community of undergraduates and graduates that is patriotic, knowledgeable, professional, highly qualified, interdisciplinary, and proficient in foreign languages.
We offer three specialties to undergraduate students, namely, French, Japanese and Spanish. Postgraduate programs are provided for French majors and Japanese majors.
French major was first offered in 1955. One year later, Japanese and Spanish majors were offered. Japanese and Spanish were suspended for many years until they were offered again in 1994 and 2014 respectively.
Currently, there are more than 220 undergraduates and 50 postgraduates in the department. Besides, we provide teaching and research for other departments in CFAU.
