I.Objectives and Requirements
MTI programme was set up in order to adapt to the economic, cultural, social development and contribute to China's international competitiveness. Its overall scheme and specific curriculum was arranged according to the objectives and requirements on postgraduates of applied literal arts of Ministry of Education and the teaching framework of China National Committee for MTI Education. The programme, adhering to the educational policy of comprehensive development, and the school motto of CFAU, focuses on students’ development in profession and language proficiency comprehensively. Graduates are expected to be extraordinary, multifaceted translation and interpreting professionals qualified for translation and interpreting commissions for important international occasions of state ministries or other foreign departments.
To achieve the objectives, postgraduates of this programme should:
1.Be of integrity;
2.Be proficient in both Chinese and English;
3.Be familiar with basic translation theories;
4.Be competent for translation and interpreting for foreign affairs;
5.Have broad scope of knowledge;
6.Be able to write survey report or academic paper;
7.Be able to communicate in a second foreign language.

Students should obtain 41 credits, among which 25 are for required courses, 14 for elective courses, and 2 for professional internship.

VI.Thesis and Defense
The thesis takes the form of research paper, survey report, experiment report, or practice report, etc. Students, supervised by the supervisors, conduct research, survey, or experiment on a certain aspect of interpreting, or write on their own interpreting practice. The final work is a report of no less than 10,000 words or a research paper of no less than 15,000 words.
1.Postgraduates who meet the following requirements can submit the thesis:
•to have passed all the courses and obtained credits required by the programme;
•to meet the requirements of CFAU, such as school roll;
•to have paid tuition and other fees as required.
2.Whatever form it is in, the thesis must be written in English, combine theory and practice, and conform to academic norms. Thesis is reviewed anonymously. Of all the reviewers for one thesis, at least one is an external professional. The thesis proceeds into defense only when it is approved by at least two of the reviewers. The defense committee consists of at least three persons, one of whom must be an experienced interpreting practitioner.
3.Postgraduates who pass the review and defense are conferred with degree of Master of Translation and Interpreting.
