On June 3, 2026, Professor Piotr Dutkiewicz of the Department of Political Science at Carleton University and Director of the Center for Governance and Public Policy led a delegation of Canadian experts and scholars to visit the University and hold discussions with our scholars. The event was chaired by Vice President Sun Jisheng.
Vice President Sun introduced the University's educational features and achievements over the 70 years since its founding. She pointed out that the world today is undergoing profound changes and faces multiple challenges, and that the global governance system urgently needs reform and improvement. China has always upheld the international order with the United Nations at its core, advocates building a community with a shared future for humanity, and promotes the development of the global governance system in a more just and equitable direction.
Guo Yanjun, Director of the Secretariat of the Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity; Han Zhili of the Institute of Asian Studies; Zhang Huilian of the School of International Economics; Wang Sidan of the Institute of International Relations; and Wu Jiyuan of the Department of Diplomacy spoke respectively on topics including China-U.S. relations, East Asian regional cooperation, China-Canada economic cooperation, energy and environmental cooperation, and the impact of the Gulf War.
Professor Dutkiewicz thanked the University for its warm reception. He pointed out that current international relations show trends such as the securitization of issues, rising revisionism and mounting protectionism, and that the international community urgently needs to build a shared vision of the future; the vision of 'a community with a shared future for humanity' put forward by China provides an important framework for addressing global challenges.
Scholars of political science and international relations from Canadian universities, research institutes and think tanks including Thompson Rivers University and Collège LaFlèche also shared their views on topics such as the stability of China-U.S. relations, adjustments to Canada's China policy, and China-Canada cooperation in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
In the interactive session, students of our university raised questions on the international order, global governance and the teaching models of Canadian universities, to which the Canadian scholars responded respectively.
In her concluding remarks, Vice President Sun pointed out that the current international situation is full of challenges, and that the University stands ready to continue serving as a bridge to promote practical cooperation between China and Canada in education and other fields, looking forward to more cooperation outcomes in the future.
