To thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy and the guiding principles of the Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries, and to support preparation for the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO) Summit to be held in Tianjin in the autumn, , three organizations collaborated on a special event. The Tianjin Municipal People’s Government Foreign Affairs Office, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, and the Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences jointly hosted the inauguration ceremony of the “Research Center on SCO Community with a Shared Future” and a dialogue session. This initiative received guidance and support from the Research Center on Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity. The event took place in Tianjin on June 21.

Key speakers at the opening ceremony included: Luan Jianzhang, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government Foreign Affairs Office; Zhou Honglei, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin Foreign Studies University; Zhong Huibing, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of the Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences; Wang Fan, President of the China Foreign Affairs University and Director of the Research Center on Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity; Luo Lin, Dean of the Academy of International and Regional Studies at Beijing Language and Culture University; Askhata Abdumurzaev, Education Counsellor of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China. The ceremony was presided over by Li Yingying, President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University.

In his address, President Wang Fan highlighted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a steadfast champion of true multilateralism, noting its evolution and expansion with global significance that transcends regional boundaries. He emphasized that Tianjin has demonstrated unique advantages in supporting the SCO’s development and is emerging as a vital hub connecting China with other SCO member states. President Wang pledged that China Foreign Affairs University will collaborate with various stakeholders in Tianjin through structured cooperation, regular exchanges, and systematic research. Their shared goal is to build a high-end think tank platform with Chinese characteristics, Tianjin’s distinct style, and international influence. This initiative will provide intellectual support and talent guarantee for building a closer SCO community with a shared future.

The dialogue session focused on two central themes: “The SCO Community with a Shared Future and China’s Initiatives” and “The SCO Community with a Shared Future and Tianjin’s Role”. Participating experts unanimously agreed that the establishment of the Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is both timely and necessary. The center not only aligns with the practical demands of regional cooperation but also meets the academic needs of advancing the theory of a community with a shared future for humanity. It is expected to provide Tianjin with new momentum for summit preparations, practical cooperation, and institutional innovation.
“The Research Center on SCO Community with a Shared Future” will be based in Tianjin, with its influence radiating across China while maintain a broad perspective toward Asia and Europe. It will focus on theoretical research and practical exploration within the SCO framework, striving to establish itself as a new think tank platform with international influence. The center aims to provide high-quality theoretical insights and policy support for realizing the vision of “building a closer SCO community with a shared future”.
