The Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity Holds a Discussion with Young Scholars from Leading Latin American Think Tanks

In May 2025, at the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, President Xi Jinping announced that China and Latin America would jointly launch five major programs — for solidarity, development, civilization, peace, and people-to-people connectivity. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the launch of the 'five major programs,' on the afternoon of May 25, 2026, the 'Discussion between the Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and Young Scholars from Leading Latin American Think Tanks' was successfully held at the Zhanlan Road campus of China Foreign Affairs University.

Supported and organized by the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion was attended by a delegation led by Minister-Counselor Zhang Yuanwei of the Department and chaired by Professor Shi Yi, Vice President of CFAU. More than forty people attended, including young scholars from leading think tanks and universities in seventeen Latin American countries and teacher and student representatives of CFAU, who held in-depth exchanges on topics including governance experience, the four global initiatives, the digital economy and green development, global partnerships, and Belt and Road cooperation.

At the discussion, five CFAU experts delivered keynote speeches on the above topics, systematically introducing the rich connotations and practical pathways of Chinese solutions. Four Latin American scholars from the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador then delivered exchange speeches, bringing the real concerns and practical thinking of Latin American countries from angles including the global influence of the Belt and Road Initiative and Latin American cooperation, directions for deepening the Brazil-China strategic partnership, the perception of and response to the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity in Latin America, and the opportunities and prospects of the Ecuador-China free trade agreement. The Chinese and foreign sides also interacted on topics such as Chinese enterprises going global and the development of Latin America's digital economy.

This discussion is another important measure by the Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity to deepen international academic exchanges and serve major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. It has built a high-quality platform for China-Latin America think tank dialogue, helping enhance the two sides' intellectual consensus and mutual understanding in building a China-Latin America community with a shared future, and pooling new wisdom and consensus for advancing the 'five major programs' in depth and substance.
