An Online Seminar Held on the Subject of WTO Reform Amid International Cooperation on COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control


On the morning of April 24th , 2020, the Chinese Society of International Law (CSIL) held an online seminar themed, “WTO Reform Amid International Cooperation on COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control.” Professor Huang Jin, the President of CSIL, presided at the meeting.

Professor Sun Jisheng, the Standing Vice President of CSIL and Vice President of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), delivered a keynote speech on “COVID-19 Pandemic and International Governance Reforms” at the beginning of the meeting. Professor Jiang Guoqing from the CFAU Department of International Law, who is a member of the Standing Committee of CSIL, also discussed  “The Relationship Between the Pandemic with  Changing WTO Reforms and the Chinese Response.” Officials, specialists and scholars from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Institute of International Law of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), University of International Business and Economics, Wuhan University, and many other institutions attended the meeting and presented reports or speeches.

This meeting is the second online seminar held by CSIL since the outbreak of COVID-19. On April 8th, 2020, CSIL and CUPL co-hosted their first online seminar, which focused on the topic of “International Public Health Security and International Law.” CFAU Department of International Law Professor Zhang Aining, who is also the Secretary-General of CSIL, led the CSIL Secretariat staff to coordinate with colleagues from both the School of International Law and the School of Law-based Government at CUPL to successfully organize and prepare for these two meetings.
