Trilateral Journalist Exchange Group Visits CFAU

On the afternoon of June 15th, the China-Japan-ROK journalist exchange group visited the China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) and held a seminar with our scholars. The 5th Trilateral Journalist Exchange Program (TJEP) was hosted by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), and featured nine senior journalists from major media organizations in China, Japan, and South Korea.

Prof. Jiang Ruiping, Vice President of CFAU, delivered the welcome address and expressed his views on trilateral cooperation. In addition, Han Mei, Deputy Secretary-General of TCS, delivered a speech introducing relevant background information. Other scholars that participated in the seminar include: Wei Ling, Director of the Chinese Foreign Policy Studies Center; Qu Bo, Director of the Institute of International Relations; Zhu Dandan, Associate Professor from the Department of Diplomacy; Li Fujian, Assistant Professor from the Institute of Asian Studies; Dr. Wang Jiaxi from the Institute of International Relations; and Song Junying, Associate Professor from China Institute of International Studies. The seminar was presided over by Guo Yanjun, Director of the Institute of Asian Studies.

During the seminar, the scholars shared their observations on some issues that are of great interest to journalists from China, the ROK, and Japan, including trilateral cooperation; the DPRK-US summit; China’s diplomacy with neighboring countries; China-ROK bilateral relations; Sino-Japanese bilateral relations; the participation of Japan and the ROK in China’s Belt and Road Initiative; and how leaders’ personal styles influence international relations. The participants had an engaging discussion on these topics, each bringing a unique viewpoint.

The Trilateral Journalist Exchange Program is an annual event that is now entering its fifth consecutive year. Hosted by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat, the program is aimed at cementing trilateral cooperation in the media and deepening the three countries’ understanding of their foreign policies, domestic situations, and related areas of cooperation. This is the trilateral journalist exchange group’s third visit to CFAU, allowing for the forging of closer ties between our scholars and the media of the three countries, and to promote our research in trilateral cooperation.
