Roundtable on the BRICS and the Future of Global Order

A round-table on the BRICS and the Future of Global Order was held on December 12, 2017 on CFAU’s Zhanlanguan Road Campus. Six speakers participated in the roundtable discussion: Prof. Qin Yaqing, president of CFAU, Prof. Amitav Acharya of American University, Assistant Prof. Oliver Stuenkel of Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo, Brazil, Ms. Pan Danrong, director of Shanghai People's Publishing House, and Prof. Wei Ling, director of the Chinese Foreign Policy Studies Center. The roundtable was co-organized by Shanghai People's Publishing House and the Chinese Foreign Policy Studies Center, CFAU.

President Qin began by expressing his gratitude to the scholars for their long-term support of CFAU. _He then emphasized the great significance of cooperation between the BRICS countries and their achievements. He also spoke highly of the book The BRICS and the Future of Global Order by Mr. Oliver Stuenkel, which is a systematic study of the evolution of the BRICS, their achievements and challenges.  


Director Pan Danrong of Shanghai People's Publishing House and Prof. Oliver Stuenkel of Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo delivered keynote speeches, introducing the book in terms of the publishing process and the main content. Later, Prof. Armitav Acharya made comments on the book and came up with practical and constructive advice about how BRICS countries can best cooperate with each other. Director Wei Ling outlined the latest progress in cooperation among BRICS countries.

In the Q&A session, experts, teachers, and students exchanged views on issues related to cooperation and challenges among BRICS countries. The roundtable was pragmatic, efficient, and well-received.
