CFAU Hosts Fourth Seminar on Training of Talents in International Law and Legal Education

The Fourth Seminar on the Training of Talents in International Law and Legal Education hosted by the Department of International Law of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) was held in Beijing’s Yinlongyuan Hotel on November 18th, 2017. Present at the seminar were over 40 teachers, students and experts from the CFAU Department of International Law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC, the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), Beijing Dingjian Law Firm, as well as representatives from colleges and universities from all over China, including China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), Beijing Normal University (BNU), University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), Northwest University of Political Science and Law (NWUPL), Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL), Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and University of International Relations (UIR).

 Li Shuyuan, secretary of the Party branch of the CFAU Department of International Law presided over the seminar. She, on behalf of the host, extended warm welcome to all experts and scholars in attendance. Hu Bin, counselor of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC delivered a keynote speech, sharing his observations on the training of talents in international law from the perspective of legal practices.  


One of the two themes of the seminar was the Development of the Curriculum System for Law and the Training of Talents for International Law. The session was hosted by Prof. Liu Yajun, president of the School of International Law, NWUPL. Prof. Bi Yanying, dean of the Department of Law at UIR, Prof. Bian Yongmin, dean of the Department of International Law at UIBE, Prof. Li Bin, vice president of the School of Law at BNU, Wu Yong, president of the School of Law at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), Prof. Huo Zhengxin, vice president of the School of International Law at CUPL, Wang Yuanyuan, director of the Office of Academic Affairs of the School of International Law, SWUPL, Li Chi from th School of Law of People’s Public Security University of China (CPPSU), and Li Xiaoli from the Department of Law of Beijing Union University (BUU), delivered speeches at the session and shared the experiences of their universities in fostering talent.


The other theme was Career Planning and the Methods for Talents in International Law, which was presided over by Prof. Sun Jilu from CFAU’s Department of International Law. During this session, lectures were given by Prof. Xiao Zhiyuan, vice president of the School of Law at ZUEL, Prof. Ding Wei, vice president of the School of Law at XJTU, Wu Wendi from Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), Yan Dong, vice president of the School of Law at BFSU, Prof. Zhu Jing’an from the School of Law at Nankai University, Feng Guang, deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, Qu Haibin, director of Beijing Dingjian Law Firm and Feng Qisun, associate professor in the School of Law at Beijing University of Technology (BJUT). Based on their own legal practices, they made observations about the training of talent in international law.    


During the concluding session, Prof. Xu Junke, dean of the Department of International Law, CFAU, made a summary on the basis of the themes of the seminar. He further elaborated on the teaching reform and the exploration of new methods for training talent in international law at CFAU’s Department of International Law.


This seminar enabled CFAU’s international law department to establish closer ties with other universities and colleges and helped carry forward teaching reform within the department.
