The national final of the 12th Asia-Pacific Youth Model APEC Conference (Model APEC) was held in Beijing from 19 to 20 September 2021. Zhang Yuanshinan, a student from the Department of English and International Studies(DEIS) at China Foreign Affairs University(CFAU) , won the national championship of the university group for his wonderful speech, excellent presentation and fluent English expression.

The Asia-Pacific Youth Model APEC Conference, referred to as MODEL APEC (MA), founded in 2010, is a public welfare youth project initiated by China, which aims to enable young people to submit policy recommendations to APEC decision-makers by participating in and discussing APEC core issues and conference processes, and to select outstanding Chinese youth representatives to attend the annual informal APEC leaders' meeting.

The 2021 (12th) Model APEC Conference is under the guidance of the China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC Women Connect, and the Overseas Agricultural Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences(CAAS), and is sponsored by Asia-Pacific Youth Foundation for Communication and Development, the Organizing Committee of Asia Pacific Youth Model APEC Conference,the International Technology Transfer Network (ITTN), the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD), the International Communication Institute of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, with participation from more than 20 provinces and cities and more than 100 universities across the country. The participants explored the possibility of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, digital economy, scientific and technological innovation and women, in the form of Model APEC and the framework of the “Youth Vision for APEC 2040”, with the aim of contributing to the development of the Asia-Pacific region.

Zhang Yuanshinnan won the championship of the university group at this Asia-Pacific Youth Model APEC Conference, which reflects the excellent learning outcomesof the theoretical and practical teaching at DEIS at CFAU, and shows the overall quality and outstanding achievements of CFAU students. In order to train more and better prepared foreign affairs professionals for the cause of  major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, DEIS will continue to adhere to and promote the deepening scope and expansion of practical and innovative teaching reforms.
