Global Economics Master’s Degree Program

I. Program Objectives
This program stresses the specialty features of China Foreign Affairs University and takes full consideration of the special requirements for interdisciplinary and practical talents in current society. It is aimed at developing high-level and high-quality personnel in the field of global economics for the foreign affairs offices in governments, enterprises and public institutions concerning foreign affairs, and research and teaching faculties.
Students should be equipped with the theoretical basis of Marxism, theoretical basis of macroeconomics and microeconomics and profound understanding of rules and characteristics of the current economic development in the modern world. They should be able to link theory with practice, and conduct analyses and research on major international economic issues, national economics and international economic relations with informed opinions and scientific methods. In addition, strong writing ability, ability to solve practical problems and independently undertake practical job responsibilities, proficiency in a foreign language and strong ability of foreign communication are also indispensable.

III. Program Length
The length of this full-time graduate program is two academic years. Required and elective courses are taken in the first academic year, and the second year is structured to allow students to complete their graduation thesis and relevant defense.
VI. Credit Requirements
Students are required to take 33 credits. The relevant courses and credits are as follows:
i. Required courses for all
Theoretic courses for all 5 credits
Foreign language 4 credits
ii. Required courses for the major 16 credits
iii. Elective courses for the major 7 credits
vi. Assistant teaching at school for 72 credit hours, or social practice on holidays for 1 month with a written internship report and an internship certificate 1 credit
V. Teaching Methods
i. According to the relevant requirements and objectives, we will conduct the teaching in strict accordance with teaching syllabi with the precondition of a complete knowledge system. It will combine the theoretical learning with seminars and concentrated learning to develop students’ ability to think independently and apply theory to analyze and solve practical problems. Students will make great progress in both theory and practice after two years of study.
ii. Developing students’ interests in conducting scientific research. We will create favorable conditions and opportunities for our students: strengthening foreign academic exchanges, inviting professors outside the school to give lectures, and encouraging students to attend academic seminars, participate in mentors’ scientific research projects and write papers at school.
iii. Encouraging students to take social practices and pay attention to social realities. We will develop their responsibilities for our society and encourage students to contribute to it.
vi. All the taken courses should be examined or assessed. After students pass the relevant exam or assessment and the mid-period examination, they may start to write their graduation theses.
VI. Graduation Thesis
Students should finish their theses on their own under their mentors’ guidance. The thesis should adopt important theories or focus on subjects of practical value. It should be innovative and reflect students’ professional theoretical ability, ability to raise problems, and ability to analyze and solve them. Students should submit their thesis topics, thesis proposals and literature reviews to their mentors by the third semester, and start to write it with mentors’ agreement. The graduation thesis should be finished by the fourth semester, and the master degree can only be conferred when the thesis defense is passed.
