Center for Human Rights Studies

China Foreign Affairs University is among those institutions of higher learning in China that spearheaded human rights studies. It is also the first institution of higher learning in China to offer the course of International Human Rights Law to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Through over 20 years of great efforts, CFAU has built a mature and stable research team in the field of human rights and had a lot of influential research results published. This is the basis on which the CFAU Human Rights Studies Center was established. Based on that, the Center further intensifies efforts in the research and teaching of human rights, making its due contribution to the heightening of people’s human rights awareness and China’s human rights diplomacy

Members of the Center:

ZHANG Aining: Director of the Human Rights Studies Center of CFAU. Professor of law, Secretary-General and executive council member of the Chinese Society of International Law (CSIL), Council member of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, member of the editorial board of the Chinese Yearbook of International Law, member of the academic committee of Beijing Law Society. Prof. ZHANG teaches International Law, International Human Rights Law and Legal Practice. She was among the earliest group of scholars in China who undertake the teaching and research of Human Rights Law. She was a visiting scholar to the Human Rights Law Centre of the University of Nottingham in UK and once worked in the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights of University of Oslo in Norway. She attended the China-EU human rights dialogue as a member of the Chinese delegation, joined in the deliberation of China’s report on implementing the Human Rights Conventions of the UN in Geneva, provided expert advisory opinion on the issue of human rights many times to the CPC Central Committee and relevant Ministries or Commissions under the State Council, and took part in many international exchange programs on human rights. She has achieved fruitful results in the academic research on human rights.

LI Hongbo:  Deputy Director of the CFAU Human Rights Studies Center, Professor of lawDirector of Legal Clinic, CFAU. Council member of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, Member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Third Intermediate People's Court of Beijing, Visiting Scholar (Bergen University) . Professor LI teaches Jurisprudence, Comparative Law and Human Rights Law . He has achieved fruitful results in the academic research on human rights.

JIANG Guoqing: Professor of law, Ph.D. Supervisor, Executive council member of the Chinese Society of International Law, Council member of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, Director of the UN Human Rights Studies Center of CFAU, Visiting Scholar to the Human Rights Law Centre of the University of Nottingham. Professor JIANG has attended many conferences on human rights and written relevant essays.

GAO Xiudong: Professor of law, Professor GAO teaches Criminal Law and International Criminal Law. 

QIN Xiaocheng: Professor of law, Professor QIN teaches International Law, International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law. He was among the earliest group of scholars in China who undertake the teaching and research of Human Rights Law and took part in many international cooperation programs on human rights. He was also a core complier of A Course in International Human Rights Law, the first guidance book for teachers on this subject in China.

ZHOU Wangshu: Associate Professor, Professor ZHOU teaches and undertakes research on Constitutional Law and Administrative Law.
