As invited by the World Bank Group and the Johns Hopkins University, six students from the Department of English and International Studies (DEIS) of China Foreign Affairs University(CFAU), LI Haopeng, XIN Zhuofan, HU Kexin, DENG Yan, LU Zhiyuan, and JING Ziyao, went to Washington D.C. in the United States of America to attend the 2019 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF). The group also visited Johns Hopkins University and were led by Professor Marcus De Freitas, a foreign teacher from CFAU,
During the activity, the students attended the 2019 Annual Meetings of WB and IMF. The President of WB, David Malpass, Ministers of Finance from many countries, Central Bank Governors and senior managers of world top enterprises attended the conference. The topics of discussion cover all ranges, including Reducing Poverty and Promoting Development, Global Trade Chain, Catalyzing Environmental, Social and Governance Investment, and Empowering Women Entrepreneurs, etc. The six students paid close attention to the conferences and actively discussed with participants from all over the world. After each conference, Professor Marcus explained to students the relevant economic terms and knowledge, answered their questions, and listened to their opinions on the topics.
CFAU students were also invited to visit the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University. With the guidance of a JHU student, they took a campus tour and became familiar with the curriculum and campus life there. They also audited several courses in JHU, including Climate Change: Science, Economics and Politics, Military Adaptation Under Fire, Conflict and the African Great Lakes, and had engaging conversations with the professors and students of JHU .
Through the activity, the six students gained a deeper understanding of the global economy and overseas university life. While improving English competence, it is also important to look at the world and pay attention to global affairs. The activity also helped the students to find their shortcomings and directions for future careers, encouraging them to become high-end global talents in the future.
