The National Finals of the 4th "CTPH Cup" National Teenager Interpretation Contest Successfully Held at CFAU

The National Finals of the 4th "CTPH Cup" National Teenager Interpretation Contest, sponsored by China Publishing Group’s China Translation and Publishing House (CTPH) and co-organized by the Department of English and International Studies (DEIS), CFAU, came to a successful conclusion on December 9, 2018 at the lecture hall of the downtown campus of CFAU. Vice President of CFAU, Professor Sun Jisheng, Dean of the Department of English and International Studies, Professor Shi Yi, head of the United Nations Training Program in China, former head of the United Nations Chinese Team, Dr. He Yong, President of China Translation and Publishing House, Mr. Zhang Gaoli, etc., attended the finals as guest judges.



At the opening ceremony of the finals, Vice President Sun Jisheng delivered an opening speech on behalf of CFAU. She first extended a warm welcome to the contestants from all over the country, and spoke highly of the contribution of the “CTPH Cup” National Teenager Interpretation Contest in promoting the interpreting capability of high school students. Professor Sun also said that she warmly welcomes those who are interested in diplomatic careers to come to study at CFAU and become the messengers for cultural exchanges between China and other countries.



The “CTPH Cup” National Teenager Interpretation Contest is aimed at high school students who are between 12 and 18 years old and are outstanding in both Chinese and English. The contest examines the language expression ability, vocabulary application ability and bilingual conversion ability of the contestants through source language retelling, subject interpretation, English-Chinese interpretation, Chinese-English interpretation and dialogue interpretation. Since the first competition in 2015, the contest has attracted hundreds of thousands of students from all over the country. With its authority and popularity, the contest received great attention from interpreting circles and universities in the past four competitions.



The six contestants who entered the finals competed fiercely. Finally, Li Yichen from Chengdu Foreign Languages School, Zhong Zijia from Shanghai Shibei Junior Middle School, and Wang Congwen from Nanjing Hexi Foreign Languages School respectively won the first, second and third places.



The “CTPH Cup” National Teenager Interpretation Contest is not only a campus feast of culture shared by young people, but also an important platform for high school students to exchange ideas and deepen friendship. It is a pioneer in cultivating teenagers’ interpreting ability, and a contributor to China’s advanced interpreting talents reserve. As the co-organizer of the contest, the Department of English and International Studies not only supported the successful holding of the contest, but also scouted potential English interpreting talents, promoted the contestants’ understanding of the department’s teaching objectives of high-level diplomatic interpreters, and cultivated their interests in and aspirations for a diplomatic career.
