From February 18 to 23, 2018, the Department of English and International Studies sent English Debate Association members, Hu Yunzhe and Zheng Qichuan, to visit Rollins College in Florida, USA for a week-long debate exchange on behalf of China Foreign Affairs University. The visit was led by Yang Qiang, instructor of the debate team of the department.

Centered around debate, the schedule of this exchange was colorful and compact. The delegation had full and friendly communication with American teachers and students and the exchange achieved satisfying results. The two debaters participated in the “Rollins Cup” debating competition with top debaters from Rollins College and Jamaica. They contended, communicated and learned from each other on the debating stage. Rollins College also organized a number of debate shows where the outstanding performance of Hu Yunzhe and Zheng Qichuan won recognition from the coach and debaters of Rollins Debate Team as well as applaud from the audience.

Rollins College has a fine tradition of debate and its debate team has an excellent record in debate competitions both in and outside the United States. This debate exchange has strengthened our ties with Rollins College, enhanced our friendship and laid a good foundation for further cooperation in the future. The debate team has benefited greatly from this visit which exposed them to the unique debate culture of Rollin College and the debating skills of the outstanding American debaters. The two debaters also showed the style and strengths of Chinese debaters.
