The second round of 2017 “FLTRP Cup” English Public Speaking Contest Beijing Division was held at Beijing Forestry University on October 28, 2017. Shen Jianan, an English and International Studies  sophomore, represented CFAU and won the second prize after competing with 48 outstanding contestants from dozens of universities in Beijing.

The competition consisted of two stages: the knockout and the qualification trials. The first stage was a 3-minute impromptu speech and the top 15 entrants were chosen for the second phase. In the second stage,  the entrants were asked to give a 3-minute prepared speech, a 3-minute impromptu speech and answer two questions.

Shen Jianan won seventh place in the morning knockout stage, thus qualifying for the qualification stage in the afternoon when Shen gave an excellent performance to win the second prize.

The “FLTRP Cup” English Public Speaking Contest, first held in 2002, was co-organized by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) and ELT Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education., The contest is the largest and highest level of its kind in the country.
