Training Objectives
In line with China’s Reform and Opening Up and the demands of China’s socialist modernization, the master’s degree in international politics trains special talents in accordance with Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory to teach in universities or educational institutes, embark on research and work for organizations related to foreign affairs. Students are required to have a good foundation of Marxist theory, learn about the theories of international politics and have insights into the social and economic conditions of major countries and regions. They should also be familiar with the major practical and theoretical problems of contemporary international politics, be able to carry out research on world politics, regional politics and single-country political issues using the correct methods. Students are required to have proficiency in a foreign language and be able to write and communicate with foreign parties. They should also have an all-round development in terms of morality, intelligence and physical qualities.

Length of schooling
The Master’s Degree Program lasts for two years and a total of four semesters. Three of the semesters are devoted to courses. In the third semester, students should start their dissertations under the guidance of their supervisor. The dissertation and thesis defense should be completed in the fourth semester.
Curriculum
The master’s degree in international politics consists of basic, subsidiary and elective courses. The basic courses include the Evolution of the International Political System, Principles of Political Science, and Research Methodology of Social Science. The subsidiary courses include Topical Studies of Contemporary International Politics, Comparative Political Systems. Elective courses include Theories of International Relations, Topical Studies of Contemporary International Politics, The Government and Politics of Contemporary China, U.S. Government and Politics, International Organizations and Multilateral Diplomacy, Administrative Management, Analysis of Comparative Politics, and Peace Studies.
