On October 16, 2021, the China International Law Research Center of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) was established at a symposium on international law held at the Zhanlan Road Campus of CFAU. More than sixty representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, universities, research institutions, legal practices and the Department of International Law of CFAU attended the seminar in person and online.
Participants included Ambassador Cui Qiming, CPC Committee Secretary of CFAU; Ambassador Jia Guide, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry; Dr. Huang Jin, President of the Chinese Society of International Law; Dr. Sun Jisheng, Vice President of CFAU; Fan Kun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry; Dr. Xu Junke, Dean of the Department of International Law at CFAU; Li Shuyuan, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of International Law; and Dr. Yi Xianhe, Dean of China International Law Research Center of CFAU. The seminar was hosted by Dr. Sun Jisheng.

On behalf of the CPC Committee of CFAU, Ambassador Cui Qiming extended a warm welcome to all the guests attending the meeting and celebrated the establishment of the China International Law Research Center. Ambassador Cui emphasized in his speech that he hopes the Research Center can open up opportunities for the practice of Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Rule of Law and Diplomacy, provide an excellent platform for China’s innovation in international law theory and practice, and create an important think tank for developing the Chinese characteristics of diplomacy with major countries.
President Huang Jin pointed out that, as one of the first institutions engaged in international law research in China, CFAU has made significant contributions to the research and development of international law. The Chinese Society of International Law has a strong connection with CFAU, as they mutually promote each other. He hopes that the China International Law Research Center of CFAU will become an important hub for the study of China's international law, and provide insights into the Chinese characteristics of diplomacy with major countries.
Dr. Yi Xianhe introduced the future work of the China International Law Research Center of CFAU, saying that the Research Center will centralize China’s international law research activities, in order to better serve China's diplomacy and deliver high-quality results.
