Department of International Law Holds Symposium on Consular Protection Legislation

On 22nd December 2017, the symposium on consular protection legislation commissioned by the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the P.R.C. and co-organized by the Department of International Law (DIL) at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) and the Beijing Foreign Exchanges and Foreign Affairs Administration Research Base was held in meeting room 213 at the CFAU Zhanlanguan Road campus.

The symposium was chaired by Xu Junke, director of the Department of International Law, and attended by officials from the MFA including Chen Xiongfeng, deputy director-general of the Department of Consular Affairs and director of the Centre for Consular Assistance and Protection; Guo Zhiqiang, deputy director of the Centre for Consular Assistance and Protection, and other personnel. Among the attendees were also scholars from CFAU, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), the Central University Of Finance And Economics (CUFE), Minzu University of China (MUC), the People's Public Security University of China (PPSUC), Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB) and Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT). During the meeting, scholars gave in-depth analysis of consular protection legislation and put forward constructive suggestions on this subject from the perspectives of international law, jurisprudence, administrative law and civil law.


Deputy Director General Chen Xiongfeng spoke highly of the insights and suggestions provided by the participating experts. He hoped to maintain long-term cooperation with them in order to upgrade and accelerate the work on consular protection legislation.
