ON 17th September 2018, the Network of East Asia Think Tanks’ 29th Country Coordinators Meeting and the 16th annual conference was held in Yangon, Myanmar. The meeting was co-hosted by CFAU and the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Myanmar-ISIS) and was attended by about 45 delegates from the NEAT country coordinator members of ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea. U Nyunt Maung Shein, president of the Myanmar-ISIS, attended the meeting and delivered the welcome speech. The meeting was co-chaired by Guo Yanjun, director of the Institute of Asian Studies, and U Kyaw Myaing, country coordinator of NEAT Myanmar.

The Network of East Asia Think Tanks’ 28th Country Coordinators Meeting Report was first considered and adopted by the participants at the country coordinators meeting held on 17th January. Afterwards, meetings examined and approved four research reports of the working team: “Blueprint for the East Asia Economic Community” submitted by NEAT China, “Interconnectivity of the East Asia Community” submitted by NEAT Korea, “Contribution of Emergency Rice Reserve Mechanisms to Food Security and Crisis Management in East Asia” submitted by NEAT Japan, and “Cooperation on Policies for the Disabled in the East Asia Economic Community:  Breaking Down Barriers to Build an Inclusive Society” submitted by NEAT Thailand. Finally, the participants reviewed and adopted the NEAT Memorandum 15, and made relevant resolutions and arrangements on the NEAT National Coordinator Conference 2019 and related work. The Memorandum of Understanding No. 15 and the report of the four working groups will be submitted by NEAT Myanmar to this year's 10+3 leaders' meeting through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the NEAT annual meeting on January 18, the representatives of China and Laos delivered keynote speeches respectively on "East Asian E-commerce Connectivity" and "Ways to Achieve Connectivity Cooperation among 10+3 Countries". During the free discussion session, participants held in-depth discussions on the importance of information technology and its connectivity in East Asia, its application and promotion in education and other fields, and ways to further strengthen cooperation in this field; the participants also put forward many policy suggestions.

China once again co-hosted the meeting with Myanmar after the 28th country coordinators meeting. It has been proven by practice that co-hosting relevant meetings is an effective way to strengthen bilateral cooperation under the NEAT framework.
